Push Back Pallet Racking Systems for High-Density Warehouse Storage

Push-back pallet racking is a dynamic space-maximizing storage solution engineered for warehouses looking to store more product without the cost of expanding their facility. By removing the need for multiple interior aisles, it consolidates access to a single loading face, streamlining forklift operations and reducing unnecessary travel time. Pallets sit on wheeled carts that glide effortlessly along inclined rails as each new pallet is loaded, it smoothly pushes the previous one deeper into the lane. Running on a last-in, first-out basis, this system is ideal for bulk storage of same-SKU inventory, delivering measurable improvements in space utilization, operational flow, and warehouse productivity.

If your warehouse needs higher storage density than standard selective racking, our mobile pallet racking and double deep pallet racking systems are worth comparing against your actual throughput needs.

Core Benefits

All the tools you need in one place

High-Density Lane Architecture

Deep-lane rack architecture reduces aisle requirements and increases pallet positions within the same floor footprint, enabling significantly higher storage density than conventional selective racking systems.

Single-Face Forklift Interface

A single-face access design allows forklifts to load and retrieve pallets from one aisle, reducing travel distance, improving operator efficiency, and increasing shift throughput.

Dedicated SKU Channel System

Each storage lane operates as an independent SKU channel, preventing product mixing while allowing warehouses to manage multiple product lines simultaneously with clear inventory separation.

Gravity Flow Rail Assembly

Inclined steel rails mounted on rack uprights support wheeled carts or rollers, allowing pallets to move forward automatically through gravity when the front pallet is removed.

Operator-Safe Cart Transport Mechanism

Because pallets move using internal carts and rails, forklifts remain outside the rack structure, significantly lowering collision risks and improving operational safety for equipment and personnel.

Freezer-Grade Structural Frame

Heavy-duty steel frames and mechanical cart systems operate reliably in sub-zero environments, making the structure suitable for cold chain logistics including food processing and pharmaceutical storage.

Types of Push Back Pallet Racking

Push back pallet racking is a compact storage system that allows multiple pallets to be stored on the same lane. Pallets sit on carts that roll along slightly inclined rails, so when a new pallet is loaded, it pushes the others back. This system operates on a last-in, first-out (LIFO) basis, making it ideal for products with high turnover. It minimizes aisle space, maximizes storage density, and is suitable for warehouses managing large quantities of uniform or fast-moving goods.

Cart-Based Push Back Pallet Racking

This push back racking uses nested steel carts on slightly inclined rails. Each pallet placed by a forklift pushes previous pallets backward, supporting storage of approximately 2 to 6 pallets per lane efficiently.

Roller-Based Push Back Pallet Racking

This system uses heavy-duty rollers on angled rails instead of carts. When a pallet is loaded, it rolls backward, moving previous pallets, and typically accommodates around 2 to 3 pallets per lane.

Plastic Wheel Rail Push Back Racking

Rows of plastic or polyurethane wheels on rails allow pallets to move smoothly with reduced friction. This design is ideal for lighter loads and usually stores about 2 to 3 pallets per lane.

High-Capacity Push Back Pallet Racking

Engineered for extremely heavy pallet loads, this system uses reinforced carts and thicker rails. It ensures safe operation while enabling storage of approximately 4 to 6 pallets per lane.

Structural Steel Push Back Pallet Racking

Constructed from hot-rolled structural steel frames, this racking type offers higher durability and impact resistance. It is suitable for demanding environments and typically supports 3 to 6 pallets per lane.

TESTIMONIALS

What Our Clients Say

Trusted by businesses across Mumbai

We installed push back racking from ReliableStorage in our manufacturing stores area where LIFO suits our production drawdown schedule. The trolley-cart mechanism is smooth and the incline is perfectly calibrated no pallet rollback issues at all. Load per lane is 1000 kg and we run 6-deep bays without any concerns. One of the most space-efficient and practical racking systems we've used.

Prashant Gokhale – Manufacturing Stores Head

Our construction materials distributor needed high-density storage with single-aisle access due to our narrow building. Push back racking from ReliableStorage was the ideal fit. The rail and cart mechanism is heavy duty enough for our 900 kg concrete products pallets. We achieve 70% more storage density versus conventional racking. Installation was clean, fast (6 days for 400 pallet positions), and required no structural modifications.

Rahul Yadav – Godown Manager

The push back racking cart quality from ReliableStorage is the best I've seen fully welded carts with precision wheel assemblies that run on CNC-profiled rails. No lateral play, no binding. This attention to mechanical quality is rare. For our season-end bulk storage requirement in garments, push back racking handles the peaks efficiently. ReliableStorage clearly sources high-quality components and doesn't cut corners on the mechanical sub-assemblies.

Firdaus Shaikh – Warehouse Infrastructure Lead

Push back racking from ReliableStorage was installed in our tyre distribution warehouse 3 years ago. Zero mechanical failures in that time. The paint finish is holding up well despite our dusty environment. The pallet support rail spacing was customised for our tyre pallet design ReliableStorage made this happen without charging an exorbitant custom premium. Very fair commercial practices from a very capable team.

Vishal Rathi – Warehouse Head

The safety features on ReliableStorage's push back racking are well thought out cart retention pins, front beam safety locks, and anti-derail guides. These are not visible details but they matter enormously in a busy warehouse. Their installation team briefed our operators on safe loading/unloading procedures thoroughly. Post-installation safety audit by our corporate HSE team rated the push back system installation as fully compliant with IS standards.

Nilima Desai – HSE Manager Warehouse

We compared three vendors for our push back racking project and ReliableStorage won on all key parameters upright gauge, beam quality, cart mechanism precision, and price. What sealed it was their 5-year structural warranty and inclusion of installation, operators training, and post-installation inspection in a single quote. No hidden costs. Clear documentation. Delivered exactly on the date committed. A refreshingly straightforward vendor.

Guiding Your Storage Decisions

Everything you need to know about push back pallet racking

Push back racking stores pallets on inclined carts that move backward when new pallets are loaded, automatically bringing the next pallet forward.

Push back racking allows last-in, first-out storage and offers easier loading than drive-in systems. It is also simpler and safer to operate compared to pallet flow systems.

Push back racks usually support 2,000 to 5,000 kilograms per pallet and typically allow depths of 2 to 6 pallets per lane.

Yes, push back racking works in cold storage environments when carts and rollers are made from materials resistant to low temperatures and moisture.

Push back racking works best for medium to high volume inventory with fewer SKUs per lane. It is not ideal if turnover is very low or when many different SKUs need to be stored in the same lane.

Push back racking can save approximately 30–60% of floor space compared to traditional selective racks depending on pallet depth and warehouse layout.

Installation includes assembling frames, beams, rails, and carts on a level warehouse floor. A moderate-sized system can usually be installed within one to three days.

Regular maintenance includes inspecting carts and rollers, lubricating moving components, checking rails for damage, and ensuring proper alignment for smooth and safe pallet movement.
